Customized, hands-on service
We have chosen our team carefully. Our professional staff consists of skilled project managers, estimators and craftspeople that possess the kind of attitude to turn every change or request into an opportunity to exceed our client’s expectations.
Thomas van de Veerdonk
President- Tom was sixteen when his father, who owned an ornamental plastering business, went on a trip and left him at home alone with these instructions, “Clean the garage, wash the van, and answer the phone.” Tom did as he was told, and when he answered the phone, he landed his first job for Bryant Park Grill. Tom’s excitement about his work and a sincere interest in his clients’ satisfaction have paved the way for Dutchman’s steady pace of growth for over 25 years.
Senior Project Manager- According to Anthony, a personal touch is the secret to Dutchman’s success – it’s about both keeping to the schedule and keeping it real. Anthony has been integral to Dutchman’s growth since he started here in 1994. A firm believer in hiring the right kind of people, when he established Dutchman’s painting division, he went through 30 employees in one month. “Our clients expect a high level of professionalism and service,” he says, “That means having the kind of employees who care more about our clients’ belongings than their own.”
Project Manager- A carpenter by trade, Rob is one of the few project managers you’ll see with a tool belt around his waist. His hands-on approach is all about communication, making sure there’s as much camaraderie and cooperation among the crews as there is with the architect and the client. What’s kept Rob in the business for 30 years? “I love this city,” he says, “Every job is different and there’s a unique experience around every turn.”
Bruce van de Veerdonk
Project Manager/Estimator- Bruce has been working with his brother Tom for over 25 years. Bruce started in the business in 1976 after graduating from college with a Civil Engineering degree. Bruce has worn many hats over the years, from project manager to estimator and head of procurement. For Bruce, the devil is in the details, “To keep a project on time, you have to go over every little detail from start to finish.”
James van de Veerdonk
Field Supervisor- James has been around the business since he was a child and grew up with an interest in working for the family company. He went to college and got his Bachelor of Science as well as played college Lacrosse. When he graduated in 2013 he began working for his father Tom, at Dutchman Contracting. James has a great eye for detail and always stands by the saying, “A clean and organized job ends with perfect detail.”
Field Supervisor- Brought on board by Project Manager Paul Flegar, he carries a field reputation for detail and construction savvy that makes him highly respected in the trade and among design teams citywide. Paul and Roberto have worked together for over 15 years on high end residential projects.
Roberto is also a registered site supervisor with the New York City Department of Buildings, a requirement now for obtaining certain DOB permits and projects that include what is termed as “structural demolition and shoring scope” assuring the city that the site and work is safely and professionally supervised. Roberto, as all our supervisors, are OSHA certified.
